TV tonight: 'Mike & Molly,' more
Posted April 15, 2012
•Syfy's amusing adventure Eureka returns tonight (9 ET/PT) for its fifth and final season.
That return also brings back the crew of the Astraeus — though in typical Eureka fashion, that is not the end of the story or the problem.
•When she can't zip up her wedding dress, Molly goes on a crash diet on Mike & Molly (CBS, 9:30 ET/PT).
Like its network companions, Molly could afford to go on a sex-joke diet as well — but a strong cast, led by the incredibly appealing Melissa McCarthy, still makes this the best of the CBS Monday comedies.
•On Castle (ABC, 10 ET/PT), Castle's estrangement from Beckett causes him to find a new partner — played by Nathan Fillion's Firefly co-star Adam Baldwin.
While that's a very welcome pairing, the impetus for it is sure to bother those viewers who have grown tired of the show's handling of the will they/won't they Castle/Beckett dance.
Granted, the characters belong to the writers, not to viewers, and those writers get to decide when and whether they get together.
But if they are going to keep them apart, they have to find reasons to do so that don't strike viewers as childish, annoying and absurd.
Given Castle's track record, its writers have earned some leeway — but they wouldn't be wise to push it much further.
