Metromix goes to South by Southwest
Voxhaul Broadcast
Hometown: Echo Park/Silver Lake area of Los Angeles. Originally we grew up in Orange County.
Band members: David Dennis (vocals, guitar), Phil Munsey (bass), Kurt Allen (drums), Anthony Aguiar (keyboard, guitar)
Describe your sound.
Psychedelic Motown pop rock.
With thousands of bands playing SXSW, why should people seek you out?
We have always prided ourselves on our live set; we feel like that's where we can win any audience over.
What bands are you excited to see?
The Vaccines, Foster the People, our friends Eastern Conference Champions...and we also hear the Strokes will be there, too.
What's your most memorable SXSW moment?
We all saw Autolux one year, that was really awesome, and Phil saw the Presidents of the United States perform—he really enjoyed them. Also Tony and Phil one year got pretty drunk and got in a fist fight...that was really memorable.
Charlie Sheen recently said the party binge he was on "made Sinatra, Jagger, Richards, look like droopy-eyed, armless children." How does your most memorable party run compare to Charlie's?
Well let's just say Voxhaul's party binge makes Oprah, Barbra Walters and Rosie O'Donnell look like a bunch of droopy old women.
What's the weirdest show you've ever played?
One time we played at the L.A. Zoo and opened up our set with the "Jurassic Park" theme song.
Voxhaul Broadcast play the Thursday, March 17 Texas Tornado party at Rusty Spurs (405 E. 7th Street) at 4:30 p.m on the indoor stage.
